I've been having a problem with both MSN and Windows Messenger lately! Each time I log into them and someone IM's me, my computer restarts automatically! I even downloaded a newer version of Windows Messenger earlier today, and it still does the same thing! So I can't talk on either of those messengers on my own computer anymore. I always have to use my parent's computer each time I want to talk on them, which I think is ticking them off a little!
The problem started last month in November, and I can't seem to find a solution for it! I'm afraid if I format my computer and re-install them, it'll do the same thing! Looking around the Internet for info doesn't help much! This also explains why I've been absent from MSN Messenger and why I seem to 'Log Out' each time you send me a message for those of you who are on my contact list. Can someone please help me out if they can? Thanks!

No offence ment, but I don't know what to tell you.
Unless one of us is a computer wiz, you are better off calling tech support.

I don't know what's wrong either. I don't use msn or any messenger service, so I don't know anything about them. The only options I can give you is either call someone, clean out your computer, as in get rid of a bunch of junk to see what's causing it, or wipe your computer out completely and re-install it. If it does the same thing after you clean your computer, then...don't use messenger anymore.
Maybe someone sent you a virus while you were talking to that person. That's one of the reasons why I don't use a messenger service. That, and the fact that I'm always busy to be on my computer.

I cleaned out some of the stuff on my computer, and it does the same thing. MSN and Windows Live don't work for me anymore, so I have to use plain Windows Messanger, which sucks! By the way, how can you save the conversation? I was able to review conversations I had with people by opening a folder called 'Recieved Files' with MSN. I can't view the past conversations with Windows, but how can I fix it so that I'm able to?

Yeah, maybe you have a virus, like Shadow Dragon said earlier. Other than it being a virus, I'm not sure what's wrong with your msn, but if msn has an effect on your computer, it might be a virus, unless your computer overheats and resatrts everytime exactly when you get an instant message, lol.
I think you can save entire msn convos by going File>>Save As... and then saving it to your comp as a rich text format or whatever, and then later you can go into MSWord and open the convo there if you want to read it. The newer version of msn also saves other people's instant messages if they talk to you , and you're offline, and then it displays them to you the next time you sign on. You can change those settings somewhere in the Options.
Hope that helps somewhat.

Well, I have been having trouble with msn as well.It takes a friggen long time to load sometimes, and every now and then when I am chatting with someone, it will freeze for a second, then it will run fine again.
Is it just me, or is there a pattern?Anyone else have any troubles?

I tested my Windows Messanger by getting my little brother to IM me, and it worked.
I think whenever I exit out of the main Windows messanger window, it signs me out all together, so I have to leave the main window open all the time!
Is Windows connected to MSN or something? I mean, if I log into it, do my contacts who are logged into MSN see that I'm online, or do they have to have Windows Messanger, too?

Do you exit Windows Messenger by clicking the Exit button? Cause that will log you out. If you just click the X though, it should minimize into the little icon near your computer's clock. And yes, Windows Messenger is connected to MSN messenger. All the contacts should appear there, but of course MSN has some better fetures that allow you to organize contacts better now, and it has a wider variety of emoticons and other stuff.

That is exactly what happened to mine, you have to keep the windows window open when chatting on MSN.

I finally got Windows Live working again! I deleted it, re-installed it, and so far, I haven't had any 'PC reset' problems! I don't know why I had problems with it to begin with, but now it's running smoothly. I really hope it stays that way!
